Sauna Door

Sauna Kapısı

The first use of sauna dates back to 8th century, BC. First built as a cave dug into a hill or similar geographical element, saunas are now being used as modern rooms with high temperatures available in dry or humid therapy options. A very important part of Scandinavian lifestyle, saunas are heated to very high temperatures often using volcanic basalt stones on wood fire. After the indoor temperature reaches up to 80 °C-110 °C, the steam coming from the stones is cleared off the room and the users are taken into the room.

There are several health benefits of sauna use. For example, the users start to perspire after a while due to the heat and humidity available in sauna chamber and via sweating toxins are eliminated. Nevertheless, people with health conditions such as rheumatism, muscle fever, sleep disorder, depression, etc. find the chance to recover behind the sauna door.

In Turkey, we have a number of firms specialized in sauna construction and sauna door manufacturing. In order to have the best sauna, quality materials must be used with the highest craftsmanship. African abasha trees or pine and spruce trees are commonly used for the wooden parts of a sauna. The reason behind the preference of these trees, on the other hand, is that they offer quality material which is resistant to heat and humidity. Heat and humidity resistance is further improved when these wooden materials are heat-treated before use. After the heat treatment, some surface roughness occurs and if not treated this will lead to reduced quality and a poor experience. Nevertheless, this surface roughness may also mean that there is room for bacteria activity and may impair the general hygiene of the sauna. Therefore, such surfaces are sanded to have a smooth surface.

Sauna door can be traditional or modern. Traditional sauna doors are manufactured using the same wooden material used in the sauna, while modern ones can be a combination of wood and glass or only glass. The choice is always made by the person who has the sauna constructed. Sauna doors are commonly of 80x200cm in size and it is a standard for both traditional and modern doors.

Features of an Ideal Sauna Door

  A wooden traditional sauna door must have some specific features. These are;

  • Must be humidity- and air-tight,
  • Must be shock-resistant,
  • Most be heat-resistant as the indoor temperatures are high,
  • Must be insulated perfectly,
  • Gasket placement must be carefully done

You may want to do your research for sauna door manufacturers to ensure these features.

Modern sauna door, on the other hand, is made of glass and the quality of glass here is of utmost importance. In order to ensure that the glass is resistant to shock and indoor temperatures, tempered glass is recommended for sauna doors. Moreover, sauna doors are supposed to be humidity- and heatproof and any necessary proofing must be done to ensure the insulation of the glass.
